Not all conversations are easy to initiate, but the one we will be discussing today revolves around ending the stigma, being there for one another, and laying out the very process of saving someone’s life.
In May 2026, Non-Toxic SGV launched a dedicated public health campaign focused on opioid and overdose awareness.
Realizing that knowledge and empathy were key to overcoming this crisis, we chared an informative collage on Instagram, aiming at giving the public all necessary skills and knowledge to help people overcome this challenge. Our target is to transform scary stats into actionable community awareness.
Grasping the Reality of the Problem
To this end, we informed our members about how dire the problem of drug overdose was, emphasizing the fact that more than 100,000 individuals died of drug overdose yearly in the USA, and about 7 out of 10 cases included the use of opioids.
Signs of Overdose
We explained how to recognize an ongoing overdose by paying attention to such symptoms as lack of responsiveness, small pupils, labored breathing, bluish/gray fingernails, and blue lips.
The Mechanism of Naloxone
Our team made it clear what the substance does, namely it blocks opioid receptors to prevent overdose within several minutes and discussed actions required in case of the emergency in light of California's Good Samaritan Law (California Health and Safety Code 1799.102).
De-stigmatizing the Issue
Person-first language plays a pivotal role when speaking of this issue; therefore, we encouraged members not to judge those who may need your help.
Everyone deserves the right to get the assistance on time; every stat has a name and face behind it. Be a part of change!
